Atmospheric Acoustic Interferometer Tomography of Temperature and Winds
نویسندگان
چکیده
A technique is described for multiple-path propagation time measurements in the surface layer of the atmosphere. This is based on solving simple bi-directional ray tracing equations on successively higher penetrating paths using propagation times for a short acoustic pulse. The scattering process from turbulence is shown to be capable of providing signals from which phase comparisons can be made and time-of-flight deduced. Simulations demonstrate that the method has potential for deriving continuous temperature and wind profiles. In practice a multiple-beam interferometer can be used at each end of the path. Such an instrument has been designed and first results will be given, together with future planned enhancements.

Design, manufacture and the evaluation of Fluvial Acoustic Tomography System (FATS)
Underwater Acoustic Tomography (AT) system transmits acoustic waves into the water. The AT systems continuously measure the physical characteristics of the flow in rivers, seas and the oceans. The AT systems are synchronized via a GPS clock connectied to the satellites. Hence, the systems transmit the acoustic waves at the same time. The systems record the arrival time of acoustic waves. After ...
متن کاملEvaluation of underwater acoustic propagation model (Ray theory) in a river using Fluvial Acoustic Tomography System
Underwater acoustics is widely used in many applications, such as oceanography, marine biology, hydrography, fishery, etc. Different models are introduced to simulate the underwater acoustic propagation in the oceans and the seas. In this study, the Ray Theory model is used to simulate the acoustic wave propagation in a shallow-freshwater river (Gono River) located in western part of Japan. The...

This study has used TOMS AI as well as the reanalysis dataset of thirty-four years (1979-2012) to investigate the influence of atmospheric circulation on dust transport during the Harmattan period in West Africa, using Aerosol Index (AI) data, obtained from various satellite sensors. Changes in Inter-Tropical Discontinuity (ITD), Sea Surface Temperature (SST) over the Gulf of Guinea, and North ...

The Acoustic Tomography (AT) systems are used to monitor long-term and continuous flow in rivers, seas and oceans. One of the disadvantages of existing systems in Iran is the inability of real-time/automated measurements. In this study, by adding a raspberry Pi computer to the system and performing the required programming, it was possible to do online monitoring. The data are transferred to th...
متن کاملRecent Progress in Acoustic Travel-Time Tomography of the Atmospheric Surface Layer
Acoustic tomography of the atmospheric surface layer (ASL) is based on measurements of the travel times of sound propagation between sources and receivers which constitute a tomography array. Then, the temperature and wind velocity fields inside the tomographic volume or area are reconstructed using different inverse algorithms. Improved knowledge of these fields is important in many practical ...
